Welcome to Jane Booth Fine Art

My name is Jane Booth, and I am a Derbyshire based artist. I have been painting from my studio in Alfreton for over twenty-five years.

I list myself as a commission artist, working from client supplied photographs, painting the animals people love most.

Whether it’s a dog, cat, horse, or another cherished companion, my focus is always on portraying the unique personality and presence of the sitter, rather than simply creating a “pet portrait.”

My aim is to honour the bond between you the client, and your companion through detailed, expressive realism. Some clients have also wanted to be depicted with their companions, this is something I have done many times.

To this end, the reference material I use to produce my ultra realistic oil paintings, need to be good quality so that I can see, and reproduce all the nuances that go to create not just a painting of the chosen subject, but also capture the character and soul of the sitter on the canvas.

Other than painting subjects chosen for me through my commission work, I also have built up a large bespoke portfolio of oil paintings of British wildlife.

I have painted a number of pieces depicting Stags… usually in natural settings. The pure majesty of these magnificent animals, and what they represent to British culture, compels me to capture their beauty with paint, again and again.

Although most of my paintings of stags are photo-realistic representations of them, I have been known to paint a few abstract pieces with gold leaf, and mythological effects to capture the true wildness, and natural mythic nature that these impressive mammals conjure up in my imagination.

Along with the stags, I have produced paintings of owls, foxes, and another particular favourite of mine right now… Hares…

Again, they are mostly depicted using golds and set in mystic looking backgrounds and undergrowth, along with the hare’s natural colouring. I find this combination creates a long fabled mythic quality, that old English legends of these elusive, private warriors of the fields inspired in days of yore.

Another favourite of mine is horses. Even as a child I never had the desire to go horse riding or own one. But I have always to this day held a great love and respect for these magnificent creatures… they captured my heart long ago. My chosen interaction with them, is to paint them in all their glory.
